Historical general information

          The city of Jouars-Pontchartrain, more known under the name of Pontchartrain, was a strategic place during the Roman period, it was cited on the “Itinerium Antonini”, (Roman roads table wrote during the Third Century, BC). The city was at the crossing roads from Paris (Lutecia) to Rouen (Rotamagus) and Beauvais (Caesaromagus) to Chartres (Autricum).
          This Roman city was "Diodurum", discovered at the border of the park of the castle. Dependence during the 10th century of the "Châtellenie of Maurepas", partially that of Neauphle. The parish of Jouars belonged to the diocese of Chartres in the 13th. The name of Pontchartrain is quoted for the first time in an inventory from the Vaux-de-Cernay Abbey of the 12th under the name of "Pontem Canotensem" who means bridge on the road of Chartres.
           The first known owner is Etienne Le Paumier in the 12th, then Jehan Coquatrix, a middle-class person of Paris, also during the 12th. century.

          The Phelyppeaux  came later in the 17th century among which Paul Phelyppeaux, State Secretary.
